Our Mascot Westy
Westy was born to Westwood Primary School during our Spirit Days of 1992 and was made by the music teacher of the day, Maude Anschutz (retired, June 2005). A contest was held and the majority of students chose the name 'Westy'. These days Westy is featured in our playground logo and throughout the school and he invites us all to "Move, Imagine, Discover" at Westwood.
In 1994, during Spirit Days, and on Westy's 2nd birthday, we were given another mouse. 'Mary Margaret' was made by teacher Brenda Murphy (now at Eliot River) and is a sister and companion for Westy. In 1996, Westy was refurbished by teacher assistant Carolyn Molyneaux (retired June, 2005).
Westy's birthday is celebrated each year during Spirit Days. At this time, staff and students pay tribute to Westy and Mary Margaret, our two mascots that win the hearts of everyone!
Westy's looks have, of course, changed over the years. Below are some pictures of him. Mary Margaret is a bit camera shy, so we have no recent pictures of her...we will try to get one!
