Brendan Kelly Receives Teaching Award of Excellence

Brendan Kelly, a teacher at Kinkora Regional High School, has won the 2012 Award for Excellence in High School/CEGEP Physics Teaching for Atlantic Canada from the Canadian Association of Physicists.

Brendan, affectionately known as B.K., began his teaching career at Kinkora Regional High School in 1978 and is the Dean of high school physics teachers in the province. The following quotes were taken from submissions in support of Mr. Kelly:
"Professional, experienced, and even-keeled are words colleagues provided to describe Mr. Kelly.  He has inspired countless students to continue their post secondary education in the discipline of physics over his distinguished career."

"This award offers opportunity to recognize a teacher who has dedicated his professional career to advance the understanding of physics with a calm and gracious presence and with enormous commitment and quiet determination.   It will be a great and honorable tribute to a great teacher and a fine gentleman."

"As he put it, I "outclassed the entire field of scientists and engineers." I know that my performance in that class was due in no small part to the rigorous standards that I was held to as a physics student at KRHS."

"I will sometimes even find myself thinking about physics when I am doing everyday things because Mr. Kelly makes physics real, applies it to everyday life, and makes it interesting."

"He has contributed an incredible amount of time, talent, spirit and energy to both teaching Physics and to school life in general at K.R.H.S."

Western School Board staff and students congratulate Brendan on his outstanding achievement and dedication to his students.
