School Development
The Western School Board School Development initiative is based upon a planned an structured approach for schools to establish goals which will allow for specific actions to be taken. Actions are based on data collection and interpretation. The foremost goal for all schools are in the area of teaching and learning, with students at the center of any plan. Other critical areas for school effectiveness and student success are leadership, school climate and parental and community involvement. |
Professional Development
Professional Development is defined as the continual renewal of personal knowledge and expertise that leads to improved professional competence in support of student learning. Engaging in school development is an ongoing learning process for educators and their communities. It requires that school staffs learn about planning processes, change research and strategies, and best practices in teaching and learning. Professional development activities need to be coordinated and organized around school based goals and priorities. |
